Travelling to Lublin

Railway Connections

Lublin has relatively a well developed network of railway connections with every major city in Poland – in most cases direct. For most international connections changing trains is needed – direct connections are available only with Ukraine.

The PKP Central Railway Station in Lublin is a historic building, after the recent renovation it is in quite good condition. However, the station’s surrounding area is not the safest in the city, tourists should be mindful of their luggage. Several local train connections stop at the small station of Lublin-Północ in Gospodarcza street.

The Central Railway Station has a very good connection with the city centre – both by bus and trolleybus, however, getting to other parts of Lublin may mot be so straightforward. therefore, using a taxi service is advisable, particularly since their prices in Lublin are still relatively low. While ordering a taxi it is a good idea to mention the number of passengers and the size of the luggage – many taxis in Lublin run on gas and most of their boot space may be occupied by the gas tank. It is also possible to order a taxi for six passengers.

NOTE! The Bus and Train Stations are not located next to each other. The railways station is approximately 2-3 kilometres from the city centre.

Train Timetables. Detailed information on connection times and prices can be obtained from the PKP website or by phone.

Busses

PKS Lublin – provides a network of regular and fast bus connections. The busses depart from numbered platforms at the Bus Station in Tysiąclecia street, opposite the Castle. Several busses also stop at Dworzec Północny (near PKP railaway station) or start their route from here. Depending on the destination, tickets may be purchased at the station or from the driver. PKS maintains connections (infrequent) with most main cities in Poland.

NOTE! The Bus and Train Stations are not located next to each other. The railways station is approximately 2-3 kilometres from the city centre. The Station is not a particularly safe area, tourists should be mindful of pickpockets.

Private bus connections – departing mostly from Ruska street, tickets are purchased directly from the driver. The frequency of connections is their biggest advantage – busses to Warsaw can leave as often as every 15 minutes. Easy connections are also provided to nearby towns of Kazimierz and Nałęczów.

NOTE! The Bus and Train Stations are not located next to each other. The railways station is approximately 2-3 kilometres from the city centre.

Airports

Lublin does not yet have its own airport. The construction of a local airport is planned in nearby Świdnik, a town located on the Lublin access road from Zamość, Chełm and the border crossings with Ukraine.

Nearest Airports:

Warszawa –Okęcie

Travelling from Warsaw to Lublin is approximately 3 hours by car. It is, however, the nearest hub for air connections with most destinations in the world. Getting to Lublin from the capital is possible by train, by bus with Polski Express or many private bus connections. Importantly, Polski Express maintains a direct connection between the Airport at Okęcie and the PKS Bus Station in Lublin. Getting from the airport to the Warsaw central train station requires using a taxi or public transport, from here direct train connections to Lublin are available. Polski Express and private buses usually depart every 30 minutes (6 am – 9 pm) from Jana Pawła II street (near the PKP railway station). The terminus in Lublin is at the PKS bus station opposite the Castle, however, most busses stop in Ruska street as well.

Rzeszów-Jasionka

The airport in Rzeszów offers connections only to selected destinations: Dublin, London, New York, Warsaw. It is located within 20 kilometres from the city centre. Its greatest advantage is the easy connection between Lublin and Rzeszów via state road no. 19. In the city itself, getting to the airport is not a problem – there are numerous public transport connections, including a special :L” line, and naturally – the taxi service. Two airlines operate at the airport: PLL LOT and RYANAIR .

Tickets are sold on the respective airports’ websites as well as by the particular airlines via travel agencies in Lublin.
